The hatred and discrimination against Muslim communities in non-Muslim states are one of the leading concerns in the world. Islamophobia, anti-Muslim or anti-Islam is characterized as discrimination or hostility toward Islam or Muslims.
In simpler notes, it is the summit of hate and prejudice for Islamic beliefs, lifestyles, standards, and principles that Muslims follow.
Islamophobic remarks and approaches toward Muslims are still a big problem in the United States of America.
However, the united states are not the only region to have witnessed hate for Muslims. Several leading democracies of the world like India have also reported numerous case of Islamophobia.
It is not merely the dislike or discrimination towards Muslims, but it is discrimination for jobs, education, accommodations, traveling, basic rights, racial behavior in any sector, and above all a constant daily life torture.
This matter is rising and spreading like wildfire. Just because following religion is the birth identity and heritage of Muslims, and supposed to be loved, valued, and embraced. Muslims go through hell like they have committed some sin.
The most important thing that several celebrities even from the west say is to “Love yourself and embrace yourself no matter who you are, what your identity is. So, why are the circumstances become so altered for Muslims, and suddenly people become hypocrites for them? Because Muslims love their identity and embrace themselves and being themselves for what their religion says.
This is a very basic thing for a further jump into the topic.
Islamophobia in the United States is growing with the negative sentiments of hatred and aggression that some Americans had toward Muslims and the religion of Muslims.
The people who practice the religion or make an attempt to practice it also receive hate.
Significant attempts are being made in the United States to misrepresent Islamic teaching, insult and defame Islamic organizations, and destroy and discredit Islam itself. This extreme leads the community to commit hate crimes against Muslims.
The stereotypes and prejudices that are made about them generate hate among some Americans for American Muslims. The frequent experience of racial discrimination in America has caused Muslim several problems and concerns.
This social phenomenon of Xenophobia defines some racial characteristics and is not contemporary. However, we can say that in the last ten to fifteen years, it has become more common in American social and political discussions.
The state of affairs in such a case deteriorated at the comprehensive and individual levels. It works both ways irrespective of where it started from.
The short-term or long-term hate for Muslims has been deep-rooted in society.
There is a constricted system of anti-Islam grounds, anti-Muslim, misinformation authorities, and a grass-roots system of government, religious rights groups, and their associates.
They can be or are in broadcasting or in political affairs and team up to misinterpret Islam and Muslims in the United States. Furthermore, several organizations also play a role here, maybe hidden or obvious.
They donate noteworthy sums of money to construct the image of Islamophobia. Due to this network, Islam has become one of the most hated or misunderstood religions.
If we interpret the statistical analysis, Between April 2013 and June 2017, there were several documented hate crimes against the belief of religion for Muslims. Most of the events include damage or threats against the life of worshipers.
Muslims’ right of freedom of religion is targeted like that. This makes the Muslims in America experience significant problems with their freedoms and religious practices.
Some course of events has also fueled the hate for Muslims in America, especially the 9/11 attack.
Muslims in the US struggle against Islamophobia even a decade after 9/11.
After the September 11 attacks on the United States, a new era of anti-Muslim discrimination, intolerance, and racial discrimination started to emerge.
The hate crimes against Muslims in the United States increased significantly and have continued to rise. The prejudices were propagated by Islamophobic approaches and Muslims remain to be the target of hate, abuse, and discrimination.
Muslims are still targeted with violent incidents 21 years after 9/11. It is not mean comments or remarks, but a series of mental or sometimes physical torture towards Muslims.
It is Sad to say, not everyone wants to end this torture. The continuation of Islamophobia, discrimination, and violence is beneficial for some individuals and organizations.
According to data released by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR),
“CAIR receives 6,720 complaints from throughout the nation on a wide range of topics, like hate and discrimination incidents, hate crimes against Muslims, immigration and travel, harassment, aggressive policing, and government intrusion.”
Muslims reportedly experience hatred and disrespect based on their religion, which is their way and direction of life. They barely get humanitarian and compassionate efforts in this regard.
The statistics on prejudice against Muslims are distressing and show how much Islamophobia has increased in the US during the past 20 years.
If some people constantly trigger hatred through different channels and misrepresent any group of society. It will certainly turn out in form of extremism and discrimination.
It will validate discrimination toward Muslims and establish blatant anti-Muslim sentiments as socially appropriate.
The end note
Unfortunately, Muslims are not the first minority in America to suffer bigotry and discrimination, and they most surely won’t be the last. Rights of minorities and the human rights violation are also reported for different identities.
Native Americans, African Americans, and Asian Americans are just a few of the ethnic and religious groups that have a long history of suffering from blatant mistreatment and oppression in the United States.
It’s important to hold people responsible who advocate for racism, negative sentiments, violence, and xenophobia for their nasty words and actions in all contexts.
Islamophobia has reportedly spread around the world in different states. Women wearing hijabs are harassed, Muslims are purportedly imprisoned in large numbers in camps, and the Islamic sacred book, the Quran, has been set on fire. These are the most highlighted Islamophobic approaches, Muslims have witnessed.
This is a fact that emotional pain is far greater than physical pain. The disrespect toward Muslims sentiment is emotionally painful for all the Muslims in the world.
Anti-Muslim hatred is rising to widespread proportions. The adverse representations of Islam and Muslims generally have helped to continue, certify and normalize discrimination, aggression, and ferocity towards Muslim persons and populations.
Islamophobia is hindering the vision of a Muslim Future and the right of freedom of religion of Muslims.
Muslims are more expected to face discrimination than other religious groups. They are still facing that.
The great danger is that feel humiliated, helpless, and hurt.
